Petrified Forest was set aside as a national monument in 1906 to preserve and protect the petrified wood for its scientific value. It is recognized today for having so much more, including a broad representation of the Late Triassic paleo-ecosystem, significant human history, clear night skies, fragile grasslands ecosystem, and unspoiled scenic vistas.
Located about 120 miles from Snowflake, the Canyon de Chelly National Monument is definitely an attraction you don’t want to miss. Take the day to explore the land or enjoy a guided tour into the Canyon to learn more information about the area.
Homolovi State Park is a state park preserving over 300 Ancestral Puebloan archaeological sites. Homolovi or Homol'ovi is a Hopi word meaning "place of the little hills". Discover the historic culture of the ancestral pueblo villages through lectures, pottery firing demonstrations, and traditional Hopi social dances.
The Heritage Inn is a great stopping point for guests traveling to explore the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is approximately 2.5 hours away from Snowflake, taking the I-40 to Williams. Drive from Phoenix, stay the night with us, and drive through the Petrified Forest on your way to the Grand Canyon. We have also had guests make a day trip of it!
The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests encompass over two million acres of magnificent mountain country in east-central Arizona. Explore the rugged terrain ranging in elevations of 3,500 feet to nearly 11,500 feet or cool off in one of the eight cold-water lakes.
Get out on to the water and enjoy the beautiful weather at Fools Hollow Lake. Try everything from fishing and kayaking to hiking trails and bird watching. Pack a picnic lunch and make a day trip out of it – Fools Hollow Lake is only 20 miles from the Heritage Inn Bed & Breakfast.
Don’t miss the Casa Malpais Archeological Site during your stay at the Heritage Inn Bed & Breakfast. Here you will find exciting guided tours filled with unique site features, including an astronomical calendar, a great kiva, ancient stairway, and rock art from the Mogollon culture. Also, be sure to check out the on-site museum to view more historical artifacts.
Tee up at the Snowflake Municipal Golf Course. Choose between the 18-hole course and the new 9-hole course or grab a bucket of balls and hit the driving range. Call in advance to book your tee time at this popular course.
Hit the golf course and enjoy a day out in the sun at the Silver Creek Golf Club. Located in White Mountain Lakes, this awesome golf course is just a short drive from Snowflake, Arizona.
Spend the day at the Bison Golf & Country Club for a fun day out in the sun. This beautiful golf course offers 18 picturesque golf holes that wind through spectacular rolling hills surrounded by tall pine trees.

Tour Snowflake, Arizona’s Mormon Temple during your stay at the Heritage Inn Bed & Breakfast. This temple contains two ordinance rooms and two sealing ordinance rooms as well as some great views from the rear of building, overlooking the south west valley.
Beautifully showcasing the Hispanic craftsmanship of the time, the Stinson Pioneer Museum was built by Mexicans working for early Snowflake rancher Jim Stinson. Later sold to Wm J Flake in 1878, this historic home exhibits aspects of the early pioneer lifestyle including a loom used by Lucy Hannah Flake and a working blacksmith shop.
When James’s wife died he closed up the house, with all the furniture, dishes, and everything still intact! The Flake family decided it was a shame not to share this preserved treasure with the world. Take a tour of the home and listen to some of their family stories, happy and sad.
Tour John Freeman’s historical home and learn about Arizona life in the 1890’s. John Freeman was an industrious merchant, farmer, and Mormon town leader. This home features original antiques, toys, and textiles from the late 1800’s.
This house was built by Jesse N Smith - a famous Mormon politician, Snowflake leader, and cousin of the Prophet Joseph Smith - for Emma Larson Smith, his fifth wife. Upstairs, the four bedrooms feature rare displays, which are dedicated to four of his five 'sister wives'.
There’s tons to do at the Sunrise Park Resort! Located approximately 60 miles from Snowflake, this resort offers a variety of summer and winter activities for all to enjoy. Take a scenic lift ride or enjoy the thrill of the airbag jump and tubing slides.
Get back to nature and explore all the scenic trails and tracks of the White Mountains. There’s lots of opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding, cross country skiing, and more!
