Petrified Forest was set aside as a national monument in 1906 to preserve and protect the petrified wood for its scientific value. It is recognized today for having so much more, including a broad representation of the Late Triassic paleo-ecosystem, significant human history, clear night skies, fragile grasslands ecosystem, and unspoiled scenic vistas.

Located about 120 miles from Snowflake. It is doable to make this a day trip. We recommend taking a tour into the Canyon and have information on tour guides.

the Grand Canyon is approximately 2.5 hrs driving away from Snowflake, Taking the I-40 to Williams. Drive from Phoenix, stay the night with us, drive through the Petrified Forest on your way to the Grand Canyon. We have had guests make a day trip of it!!
